Harvested from the buckwheat plant, our Redman Buckwheat Grain has a very strong, nutty buckwheat flavour. When roasted or mixed with other flours, buckwheat will become light brown in colour and lighter in taste. Buckwheat is a highly nutritious whole grain that many people consider to be a superfood and is gluten-free. It is a good source of protein, fiber and energy and is rich in minerals like manganese, copper, magnesium, iron and phosphorus. It also ranks low to medium on the glycemic index. Store in a dark and cool environment.

How to use
Buckwheat can be used to substitute rice as a low glycemic index option. It can be ground into buckwheat flour to create all sorts of food like noodles, wrappers for potstickers or pancakes. Buckwheat can also be added to cookies, cakes, crackers, bread products and granola. These buckwheat groats can also be sprouted and used in salads or sanwiches. As buckwheat becomes gelaninous when soaked in liquid, it can be used as a great binding agent for baking.
