Goldtree's Dark Soft Brown Sugar is made in Mauritius. Dark brown sugar has a high molasses content that gives it a darker colour with a stronger caramel taste and aroma, while the softness of the sugar is because of the high level of moisture in the sugar. With the slight variation in colour, texture and taste, light brown sugar and soft brown sugar are used respectively for different recipes depending on the customer’s preference. This product is available in 250g and 1kg packs.

Why use brown sugar? Believed to be the healthier of the two when compared to regular sugar, brown sugar also comes with a richness that makes it unique. Dark brown sugar holds more moisture, retains a stronger flavour and adds a tinge of colour to goods. This is a result of the cane sugar refining process where molasses are extracted. Baked goods are thus softer, yet denser, when this is used in the dough. A unique flavourful twist can be found in your final product as well. It is used in a range of applications including baked goods such as spicy fruitcakes or gingerbread. It should be stored in a cool and dark place.
How To UseBrown sugar is used as a replacement of regular white sugar as the key ingredient in baking. It should be stirred in or dissolved as instructed according to your recipe's instructions.
Suggested RecipesBrown sugar is suitable for zucchini bread, rich chocolate cookies and even fruit cakes. It is sometimes also used as a direct alternative to regular white sugar due to its nutritional properties.
AlternativesCaster sugar, Goldtree's Light Brown Sugar, Redman's Brown Sugar and Raw Sugar are possible alternatives to brown sugar.
