Description
Treacle is made from a process of refining sugar until an uncrystallized syrup remains. Cane sugar is one of the main ingredients in treacle, and this adds to its dark colour. Aside from adding a dark colour to your final product, treacle also adds moisture and produces a rich, smoky flavour. Treacle is also sometimes used for meat preservation, although less commonly so today. This product should be stored in a cool, dark and dry place.
How to use
Treacle should be mixed into your recipe as instructed. When measuring, coat your measuring cup or spoon with oil or cooking spray to prevent the treacle from sticking.
Suggested Recipes
Treacle can be used for treacle tart, treacle apple pudding and even cheesecakes.
Alternatives
Our maple syrup or dark corn syrup are both alternatives to treacle.
